Snow Peak Visual Identity

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Lin Hai's Visual Identity operates as a sophisticated symbolic system wherein the vertical linear motif functions as a polyvalent signifier carrying multiple simultaneous meanings within hospitality and place-based branding contexts. The abstracted mountain pattern may be interpreted as a visualization of altitude variation, each vertical stroke representing a measurement point along an imagined ridgeline, transforming geological reality into data visualization aesthetic that speaks to contemporary audiences familiar with analytical graphics. Alternatively, the descending lines evoke precipitation, the life-giving moisture that transforms barren peaks into habitable environments, suggesting cleansing, renewal, and the cyclical patterns of natural systems. The deliberate irregularity of line heights and spacing introduces organic variation within systematic structure, encoding the fundamental design principle that controlled imperfection creates visual interest and human warmth within otherwise rigid geometric frameworks. The chromatic restriction to warm grays and whites carries significant cultural weight, particularly within East Asian aesthetic traditions where the appreciation of subtle tonal variation represents sophisticated visual literacy, the ability to perceive richness within apparent simplicity. White space functions not as emptiness but as pregnant pause, the visual equivalent of silence in music, allowing each element room to resonate fully. The mountain photograph anchors the abstract pattern in geographical specificity while simultaneously evoking archetypal associations with elevation, aspiration, spiritual ascent, and the transformative power of wilderness experience. The hospitality context transforms these visual elements into promises of experience, suggesting that guests will encounter the same qualities embodied in the design: refined restraint, natural beauty, thoughtful attention, and the profound peace of mountain environments. The identity system thus operates as both practical brand tool and contemplative object, rewarding extended attention with deepening appreciation for the sophisticated relationships between its constituent elements.

Recognition is an important evaluation index in logo design. How to use a simple design language to integrate the hotel with the complex and changeable landmark Potala Palace is one of the difficulties in the whole design. The Potala Palace is a holy building in the eyes of Tibetans. Therefore, the design team refined the most representative element pillars as design elements, and created the image of the three-dimensional Potala Palace through two-dimensional techniques, so that the annotation conveyed a strong regional style.
