The Gorgeous Land Residence

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

The gridded glass pavilion at the heart of Hsin Chih Wu's Residence functions as a powerful archetypal threshold symbol, creating sacred space within secular domestic architecture through the ancient human impulse to demarcate special zones of heightened experience and contemplation. The brass framework supporting beveled glass panels evokes temple screens and reliquary casings, suggesting that what is contained within holds precious significance while remaining visible and accessible, a meditation on transparency and enclosure, revelation and protection. The descending pendant lights carry multilayent symbolic resonance: their vertical orientation suggests descent of light as blessing or divine emanation while their organic elongated forms echo natural phenomena from stalactites to rain, connecting celestial and terrestrial realms within domestic space. The geometric floor inlay of interlocking triangles forms a pathway that reads as threshold marker and processional guide, the triangle itself carrying associations of stability, aspiration, and dynamic balance across numerous cultural traditions. The three overlapping circular mesh discs positioned on the marble floor invoke the symbolic power of the circle as wholeness and completion, their grouping of three activating trinitarian associations while their overlapping arrangement suggests intersection and relationship, perhaps the vesica piscis form sacred to geometric mysticism. The warm champagne and gold color palette throughout carries universal associations with solar energy, abundance, and refined value, while the cool gray marble provides grounding earthly counterpoint. The room-within-room spatial concept speaks to archetypal human needs for nested shelter and graduated intimacy, the transparent enclosure offering psychological security without isolation. Material choices communicate through established design semiotics: natural wood signifies warmth and organic connection, marble conveys permanence and luxury, glass embodies modernity and illumination, while bronze metalwork bridges historical craft tradition and contemporary precision, collectively articulating aspirational contemporary living harmoniously balanced between nature and culture.

Upstairs, the designer has set the VIP room concept as the brainstorming point to create an immersive and welcoming experience. The warmth of the space has been produced through the wood, and the space turns into a comfortable and pleasant guest reception area. On the other side, the configuration of distinct materials at the counter produces rich spatial layers. Moreover, the designer has planned the lounge and meeting room on the fourth floor with many wood elements, offering the users a relaxing and comfortable space. The two areas are defined by a transparent partition.
