TCLGreen Sustainable Art Installation

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023

The vertical blade forms comprising Kevin Chu's sustainable installation encode profound symbolic resonance through their collective verticality, traditionally associated across cultures with aspiration, growth, spiritual ascent, and the vital force connecting earth to heaven. Their grouping evokes archetypal associations with sacred groves, standing stone arrangements, and ritual gathering spaces where human communities have historically sought connection with transcendent forces. The oxidized patina surfaces carry rich symbolic weight, representing transformation through time, the alchemical processes by which base materials achieve noble beauty through patient interaction with elemental forces of air and water. This chromatic choice, the distinctive blue-green of weathered copper, bridges natural and cultural realms, appearing simultaneously organic like mineral deposits or lichen growths and evidently crafted through human intentionality. The reflective water surface activates archetypal threshold symbolism, functioning as mirror, gateway, and liminal space where ordinary reality meets its doubled other. The presence of the moon during daylight hours introduces cosmological dimension, suggesting cycles of renewal, feminine generative forces, and the eternal dance between solar and lunar principles. The integration of human figure and grazing animal within the installation space encodes messages of harmonious coexistence, suggesting art practices that welcome rather than exclude living presence. The mountain backdrop functions as archetypal symbol of permanence, challenge, and elevated perspective, while simultaneously grounding the contemporary intervention within geological timescales that dwarf human concerns. The circular economy principles underlying the work's creation extend symbolic meaning toward regeneration, resource consciousness, and sustainable futures.

TCLGreen is a modular Grass inspired Art installation and can be adapted to any location. Recycled from over 3000 discarded computer circuit boards and illuminated at night entirely by the power of the sun. With a special bioluminescent coating that glows in the dark by absorbing both natural and artificial photons, it illuminates even without electricity. An included Artificial Intelligence system is embedded into the totems where the installation can "talk" to anyone organically. A special Metaverse Immersion is included once VR/AR goggles are worn.
