Vanke Fontanelle Aesthetics Pavilion Experience Center

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2022

The architectural language of Wei Jinjing, Wei Yaocheng, and Zhang Huichao's Experience Center operates through a sophisticated vocabulary of spatial archetypes and material signifiers that communicate values of contemplation, refinement, and harmonious dwelling. The reflecting pool functions as an ancient symbol of wisdom, introspection, and the meditative mirror, transforming the pragmatic courtyard into a contemplative garden that references classical traditions where water surfaces served as instruments for philosophical reflection and the doubling of visible reality into poetic metaphor. The mature tree positioned asymmetrically embodies organic vitality and temporal depth, its presence suggesting rootedness, natural cycle, and the life force that architectural geometry frames and honors rather than supplants, while its perfect reflection creates a complete circle or mandala form symbolizing wholeness and integration of above and below, conscious and unconscious realms. The threshold condition established by transparent glass walls articulates the archetypal passage between interior refuge and exterior exposure, encoding meanings of invitation, permeability, and the contemporary reconfiguration of public and private boundaries. The sculptural latticed vessel visible as focal element suggests the traditional scholar's object, a contemplative anchor that invites meditation and cultural memory, its intricate openwork structure encoding values of craftsmanship, light modulation, and the transformation of solid material into permeable screen. The chromatic restraint limiting the palette to essential white, charcoal, and green communicates through color associations of purity, depth, and natural vitality, while the warm amber interior glow signals hospitality, comfort, and human presence within the architectural vessel. The horizontal emphasis throughout evokes stability, repose, and earthbound connection, while the precise geometry suggests rational order and human capacity to create meaningful spatial compositions that honor both cultural tradition and contemporary aspirations for refined dwelling within natural context.

The project is the experience center of the residential property Fontanelle developed by Vanke, located in Keqiao District, Shaoxing, China. Shaoxing is renowned as the Oriental Venice. The design team drew on the aesthetic of silk, integrating the poetic scenery of southern China with the stylish and ambience of Apennine peninsula, creating a modern space that leads a special lifestyle.
