Lullaby Children’s Library

Chin-Feng Wu's architectural vision for this children's library space operates through a rich vocabulary of spatial and formal symbolism that transforms functional requirements into experiential poetry resonant with universal themes of nurture, growth, and imaginative awakening. The dominant white biomorphic ceiling forms invoke archetypal imagery of protective shelter and maternal embrace, their branching configurations echoing the tree of knowledge across countless cultural traditions while simultaneously suggesting the comforting enclosure of nest or womb, spaces of safety where transformation occurs. The central column rising to support spreading canopy forms activates the axis mundi archetype, the world tree connecting earthly realm to celestial sphere, here manifested as the trunk of knowledge from which literary exploration branches outward in infinite directions. The horizontal color banding system creates a symbolic landscape journey progressing through chromatic temperature zones, the cooler greens and teals of lower registers suggesting terrestrial grounding and natural world connection while warmer yellows at higher positions imply ascent toward illumination and understanding. The circular magenta alcove functions as threshold symbol, its warm hue connoting vitality and passionate engagement while its round form echoes mandalic wholeness and the portal through which one enters other worlds through reading. Scale manipulation throughout establishes psychological symbolism wherein children experience themselves as appropriately sized inhabitants of a realm designed specifically for their flourishing, neither diminished by adult proportions nor overwhelmed by monumental gesture. The curvilinear architectural language throughout rejects rigid orthogonal thinking in favor of organic flow, suggesting that knowledge and imagination follow natural meandering paths rather than prescribed linear progressions, inviting exploration and discovery rather than directed instruction.

Designers used the high-ceilinged space above the reading table to create forest trees that resemble a giant piece of installation art. Its standing posture corresponds with the vast sea of knowledge and symbolizes that children will grow and thrive step by step through learning. Using a pure white color tone as the theme of this space, it smartly brings out a colorful visual atmosphere and makes the reading atmosphere of the library more lively and vivid.
